In the Spirit of those who have gone before me, I thought I would share with you my personal chore chart. I break my house into one room "daily" routines that I can knock out in about 30 minutes- unless it is really dirty, then it takes me a little longer.
One tip that I use frequently consists of little baskets. I always keep 3 baskets on my stairs- one for my DD’s room, the Master, and the Guest bedrooms. Anything that belongs in one of those rooms goes in that basket. When that basket is full, it is time to go to that room. Likewise, when I am cleaning a room and I come across an object that belongs elsewhere, I toss it into a basket that I carry with me to redistribute later. The stairs get their own permanent baskets because I find that the downstairs living areas seem to collect the most items that belong elsewhere.
Another thing that makes this chart work is that you can toss it into a pail along with your cleaning supplies. That way you never have to leave to get cleaning supplies. (I would surely “forget” to go back and finish cleaning.)
You do have to be really dedicated to the plan for it to work. It will be ok if you miss one week here or there, but over time it will build up and make it slower the next time. I find that I am pretty good with keeping up with the schedule when my husband is deployed, but I am much more slack when he is back.
So there it is, pretty much step by step. I hope it helps someone else.

Great chart! I'm not that organized or disciplined but this looks like a system that I could make work for me. Do you seem to do your 30 minutes each day in the morning or afternoon? I work at home so I have to keep myself from getting side-tracked with a house duty & then realize I didn't take just a quickie break but more like an hour. Throwing a load of laundry in the washer has the effect on me.
1Thanks.
Afternoon works best for me. I come home from work, toss on some ratty clothes, do my 30 minutes and then do dinner. After dinner I get stress-free chill time.
Oh, and the sheets take the longest time. They are like 15 minutes in themselves.
2See now that's gotta feel great. Do a little cleaning, eat some dinner and then relax in a clean house. Yeah, I think the bed linens will have to be a Saturday project for me. And we currently don't have a pet so there's a couple of things on your chart that I would modify. Always something to do in 5 mins. though. It would just be so nice to not dash around like a mad woman when I realize a friend or family member is about to drop in unexpectedly. I'm making up my chart over the long holiday weekend!
3You are so organized- the chart is great! I should really set a time each day otherwise I put it off till it all piles up on the weekend. Yes, I found myself running around like mad trying to clean for the two weeks between appts and kid's activities AND house guests. I need the holiday to relax and collect myself- then I'll make a chart.
4Aww, Thanks, Sofi! I'd love to take the organized compliment- I do LOVE organizing things. It is great fun for me- it gives me a chance to be creative, but while still doing something practical and productive. (Does that make sense?)
But I have to admit to still getting piles sometimes, too. I think that is just the nature of the beast with being busy/having kids/etc..
5ug i am the same!
6when hubby is around NOTHING gets done...but when he's gone I can do a million things!
Same here. I can't seem to get moving very much when hubby is around but when he's gone, it's just so much easier to get things done. I don't know why. I love my alone time!
